The sprawling buildings, skyscrapers, chaotic city life, contrast lifestyle, shopper’s paradise, and the land of numerous attractions. Known as the City of Angels, Bangkok is like any other metropolitan city, though it has some amazing things to offer if you want to explore it leisurely. Most travelers treat Bangkok as a stopover for their sojourn to beaches and hills in Thailand, but I found Bangkok more than just a chaotic city. It charms you with its ultra-modern outlook, but at the same time, it embraces you with its rich cultural magnetism. What amazed me in Bangkok was the warm behavior, high standard of hospitality, and the gracious smile of the Thai people.
Bangkok is considered a shopper’s paradise with end number of Shopping malls ranging from super luxury to economy, street markets, floating markets, and weekend markets. This city is like a wonderland for the Shopaholic, where you will be delighted to find a wide range of luxury brands including jewelry, clothing lines, makeup, and electronics. From high-end brands to local handicrafts, you can find everything in Bangkok. I was overwhelmed by receiving an invitation to attend the opening ceremony of “Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2016” in Bangkok. This is the best time to be in Bangkok for Shopaholics.
“The Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2016”, is the biggest shopping event in Thailand, starting from 15th June to 15th August. The brainchild of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), this shopping extravaganza will delight you with discounts ranging from 10% to 80% on various products. This is an annual campaign by the Tourism Authority of Thailand in partnership with Visa International and it has been a successful campaign for the last 17 years. Interestingly, this year, the festival is designed to attract a lot of women travelers to Thailand by launching a brand new campaign called “TAT’s Woman’s Journey” in the month of August. Almost 15,000 tourism business operators in more than 110 department stores and shopping centers in seven major tourist destinations like Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai, Hua Hin, and Udon Thani are participating in the Amazing Thailand Grand sale, this year. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, there will be fun events where a lucky draw winner will get“Travel 365 Days in Thailand”, which will include flight tickets and accommodation as well.

The launch of the shopping festival started with a Shopping challenge in which 14 team representatives from across Asia and Australia participated. The challenge was to spend 10, 000 Thai Bhat in the selected Malls within 90 minutes. Not just that, points were added based on the number of stamps on the passport, which was provided to each team, and also additional points from each Shopping mall along with live videos and photos.
Share your Smile & Shop your Style
The day pass of BTS (Sky Train) was also given to each one of us on the team. The shopping challenge was one fun activity where each team was running from one mall to another, racing against the allotted time. The whole atmosphere was filled with excitement, thrills, and joy. The spirit of every participant was high and teams were competing with each other. I never realized that shopping can be so much fun in an allotted time slot. I had my share of fun while hopping shopping malls using sky trains. The Siam area itself houses a couple of big malls like Siam Paragon, Siam Center, MBK Shopping Center, and Siam Discovery. Not just that, if you get down at Chitlom station, you can shop at Gaysorn, Central World and Zen, Amarin Plaza, Central Chidlom, and Central Embassy mall. Likewise, stations like Asoke and Phom Phong have a good number of shopping malls to satisfy their shopaholic soul. The best part is that all the malls are concentrated in the center of Bangkok and you can easily travel via the BTS Train which makes your shopping experience a satisfactory one as you can avoid the chaotic traffic in Bangkok and have a hustle-free shopping experience.

Well, while completing the shopping challenge at Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2016, I had a great time visiting these luxury Shopping malls. The world-famous, high-end brands, the most upscale, the trendiest, the funkiest, and the variety of products simply impressed me to the core.
The shopping malls of Bangkok not just flaunt the variety of products ranging from super luxury brands to local designer outlets, but also give you enough reasons to smile for a great satisfactory shopping experience.
While Bangkok will spoil you with a wide range of shopping malls, the below mentioned shopping malls are not to be missed, when you are in Bangkok…
CentralWorld is the largest shopping mall in Bangkok. This Shopping mall is basically a mega-shopping complex that offers everything from clothing boutiques, trendy fashion, gadgets, bookshops, and designer furniture to imported grocery stores. Not just that, beauty salons, gourmet eateries, a Cinema hall, and even an ice-skating rink makes this mall one of the must-visit shopping mall in Bangkok. Each floor is dedicated to specific types of products, like for kids (6th floor), women (2nd floor), men (3rd floor), etc. CentralWorld has more than 500 stores,100 restaurants and cafes, 15 cinemas, a Kids’ Zone, and Learning Centre. It also has two departmental stores, The Zen and Isetan. These two have a wide variety of brands spread across several floors. If you are looking for an amazing shopping experience, Central World in Bangkok will surely spoil you with choices.
Siam Paragon, Siam
This is one of the most popular shopping malls in Bangkok. From high-end International fashion brands, a Cineplex with 16 screens, and a wide range of restaurants & cafes to Southeast Asia’s largest aquarium, Siam Paragon will surprise you with everything it has. Well located at the Siam station, this shopping mall can be easily reached via BTS (SkyTrain). Siam Paragon has Bangkok’s biggest and best bookstore (3rd floor). Not just that, Siam Paragon also houses Bangkok’s biggest fitness centers on the 4th floor. If you want to buy some souvenirs for your friends and family, you should check out the famous Exotic Thai store on the 4th floor of the mall. They have a good collection of clothing, jewelry, beauty, and all kind of products, which are made in Thailand.
Terminal 21, Asoke
A new addition to the list of most popular shopping malls in Bangkok, Terminal 21, is fairly a new upmarket shopping mall in Bangkok. Located close to the Asoke BTS station, Terminal 21 is a visual treat to its shoppers. Each floor is designed on the theme of a famous city, like London, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Istanbul, San Fransisco, and Hollywood. With this unique theme, Terminal 21 can easily transport you to the respective city with its spectacular ambiance on each floor. With more than 600 shops, Terminal 21 will surely take you for a ride with a wide variety of brands and outlets. This is said to be a paradise for food lovers as this mall houses some of the most famous restaurants and cafes around. Interestingly, only the 4th and 5th floor, flaunts more than 50 restaurants and cafes and takes you on the most exciting culinary journey of yours. If you like to experience a mouth-watering food platter, you should head to the food court on the 5th floor. This is considered to be the best food court in terms of price, taste, and variety. There are a few shopping privileges if you shop in Terminal 21, like Tourist Privilege Card, Free Welcome Snack, Free Wi-Fi, Get Free NARAYAN Pouch Bag when spending over 3,500 Thai Bhat, etc.
This is one of the most affordable shopping malls for travelers and backpackers. Well known among tourists, MBK houses more than 2000 shops occupying seven floors of retail space. This is considered to be an indoor version of the famous Chatuchak market of Bangkok. The main selling point of MBK mall is the affordable price and diversity of its collection of products especially mobile phones, video games, camera equipment, luggage, streetwear and gold ornaments, etc. If you are good at bargaining, then MBK is the right place for you, where you can probably bargain on each product. Especially for gadget freaks, MBK is a paradise with plenty of options to choose from. MBK also houses the Tokyu Department Store, which offers a wide range of merchandise like clothing, apparel, cosmetics, and household goods and all at reasonable prices. If you love collecting arts and crafts from the destinations you travel to, MBK also has an indoor craft market on the 6th floor which offers a wide variety of arts and crafts from all over Thailand.
Platinum Fashion Mall, Pratunam
Platinum Fashion mall definitely tops the chart of not to be missed malls, especially for women. An endless maze of clothes, accessories, and Platinum Fashion can spoil you with choices. With more than 2000 shops, covering four floors, selling almost everything you need, this is a world of everything. Apparently, this is Bangkok’s largest wholesale mall. Platinum Fashion Mall is located in the center of Pratunam, which is hardly a 10-minute walk from Chidlom BTS SkyTrain. The best part of this mall is that it offers a wide range of products at a very affordable price. If you want to do some serious shopping and want to buy in bulk, Platinum Fashion is the mall for you to explore.

This seems to be an extraordinary spot for shopaholics. I haven’t been to Bangkok yet however, truly might want to go. What’s more, I hadn’t believed it to be so incredible for shopping. Great to be aware for when I at last visit.
Informative post! Thailand is a great place for shopping, I am planning to visit there just to shop 😉 Which would you prefer as the best mall in given list? Thank you for the informative post.

This looks like a great place for shopaholics. I haven’t been to Bangkok yet but really would like to go. And I hadn’t thought it to be so great for shopping. Good to know for when I finally visit.
Hi Anne, Thank you. Bangkok is a great place to shop.
Oh wow those malls look ridiculous. Could do some serious credit card damage!!
Being a shopaholic myself, I can vouch for that. But your shopping experience will not be ridiculously expensive. Thats the fact.
I will need to be extremely cautious if I’m going to go bring there my gf!
Hahaha Its crazy out there. A lot of lucrative offers.
I completely agree. I did not do shopping much. But have decided to go to Thailand only for shopping this time 🙂
This kind of shopping must have been super exciting. When I was in Bangkok last year, I did this running around within shops. I had just three hours for shopping and I bought a new bag for all that I shopped. There was so much to choose that I touched and picked. It was thrilling. Thailand is a great place to shop for sure. In any case I love shopping. These days I am exploring shopping malls of Johannesburg.
