With eight lanes and two iconic, triangular arches, The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge is undoubtedly a work of architectural beauty. This magnificent bridge spans the Cooper River, connecting historic downtown Charleston, and Mount Pleasant.
Arthur Ravenel Bridge also has a wide walking/biking path. In other words, it is the best spot for joggers, cyclists, and also for those wishing to take in stunning views of the harbor and downtown Charleston. The bridge is about 2.5 miles long, but you won’t need to venture that far to get a great shot. Park at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park — parking there is free— and be prepared to walk on an incline.

Shem Creek is Mount Pleasant’s most stunning waterway, offering panoramic views of the Charleston Harbor and salt marshes. Take a relaxing stroll down Shem Creek’s 2,200-foot-long boardwalk and you’ll find plenty of picture opportunities.
Arrive before sunrise and you can catch the dazzling display of colors splashing over Shem Creek. Vickery’s Bar & Grill is a particularly good spot for taking in the sunrise, as well as catching a pod of dolphins after the shrimp boats head out for the day.
In the morning, the boardwalk is full of fishermen and people getting in their exercise before the day begins. Connected to the boardwalk is Shem Creek Park, which offers a variety of trails and scenic views of the marshy water.

Pitt Street Bridge
Located in the heart of Mount Pleasant’s Old Village Historic District, the Pitt Street Bridge was once a trolley bridge that connected Mount Pleasant to Sullivan’s Island. Although the Pitt Street Bridge closed to traffic in 1945, most of the bridge has now been converted into a fishing pier and walkway.
Today, visitors can follow the bike/pedestrian greenway at Pickett Bridge Recreation Area and make their way to the Pitt Street Bridge. Along the way, there are prime opportunities to take pictures of the stunning tidal creeks and expansive stretches of the marsh.
The wooden boardwalk extends about half the length of the old Pitt Street Bridge, and some remnants of the steel drawbridge can still be seen. The boardwalk also offers stunning views of downtown Charleston, Sullivan’s Island, James Island, and the Ravenel Bridge.
